The Hammond B3 organ is one of the most versatile musical instruments made.
Originally designed as a gimmick product by a failing clock maker, it took on a life all its own when small churches used them instead of a large and expensive pipe organ.
The B3 got a whole new lease of life when jazz combos and rock bands got hold of it.
But here, for your musical pleasure are four B3s played by four great musicians; Paul Shaffer, Joey DeFrancesco, Doug Riley, and Dr. Lonnie Smith.
The Cat, made famous by Jimmy Smith, is in my mind a classic track that always sounds fresh.
Just love this performance, Brian Culbertson and the band playing a medley of Back in the Day & So Good.
